Workshop Terms of Service

Thank you for attending a Big Medium event! The following terms apply to all events, courses, and workshops whether online or in person.

Registrations are Transferrable

To transfer your registration to someone else, email josh@bigmedium.com with details about who will take your place.

Refunds and Cancellations

To cancel your registration, contact josh@bigmedium.com.

Whoops policy. You may cancel your registration for a full refund within 24 hours of booking.

At least 30 days prior. If you cancel your registration 30 days or more before the first day of the workshop with written notice, your registration will be refunded less a 20% handling fee.

Less than 30 days prior. No refunds are granted for cancellations within 30 days of the workshop.

Program Cancellation and Speaker Availability

Should an advertised speaker or workshop leader be unable to attend due to illness or other factor beyond the control of Big Medium, we reserve the right to make the best possible substitution that meets our standards. Should a last-minute issue arise where Big Medium cancels or reschedules a program, our liability shall be limited to the refund on a prorata basis of the amount paid for that program segment.

Code of Conduct

We are dedicated to providing a safe, harassment-free event experience for everyone regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion. Big Medium does not tolerate harassment of event participants in any form, whether the event is held virtually, in-person, or both.

Sexual language and imagery are not appropriate at any Big Medium events. Participants violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the event without a refund at the discretion of the organizers.

Harassment includes, but is not limited to:

Verbal and written comments that reinforce social structures of domination (related to gender, gender identity, and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion)
Sexual images in public spaces
Deliberate intimidation, stalking or following
Harassing photography or recording
Sustained disruption of talks or other events
Inappropriate physical contact
Unwelcome sexual attention
Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behavior

Enforcement

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, Big Medium retains the right to take actions to keep the event a welcoming environment for all participants. This includes warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund.

Big Medium may take action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any participants. Participants are expected to follow these rules during the event and during event-related virtual social activities that might take place before, during, and after the main conference program.

Reporting

If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible. Harassment and other code of conduct violations reduce the value of our event for everyone. We want you to be happy at our event. People like you make our event a better place. You can make a report either personally or anonymously.

As human beings, we all have a role to play in keeping our communities safe. If you think you see a potential situation, don’t fall prey to the bystander effect. Please get involved and err toward being more helpful than might ultimately be necessary. Run interference and help create space by:

Inserting yourself into the interaction. Introduce yourself and try to join the conversation.
Throw the affected party a lifeline by approaching them and asking if they would like to go somewhere else to talk. If you feel uncomfortable and don’t want to get directly involved, or aren’t sure what to do, contact a staff member so they can get involved.
